Robert Downey Jr. Named Entertainer of the Year
Entertainment Weekly named Robert Downey Jr. Entertainer of the Year, as the long-troubled actor made yet another comeback (does this make 5 or 6?). Coming off two hits with IronMan and the Ben Stiller, Jack Black flick Tropic Thunder, Downey is poised to make a serious run at an acting career. His next movie will be Sherlock Holmes, directed by Guy Ritche.
Downey has been in and out of courtrooms, rehab centers, jail cells and strangers homes for decades now, dating back to the Less Than Zero days of the Brat Pack. In a series of bizarre and destructive incidents that included being busted for cocaine in a hotel room wearing a Wonder Woman costume, driving naked through Hollywood and tossing imaginary rats from his window, Downey’s career went down the toilet. Some in the industry felt bad for him and tried to give the Chaplin star roles like Ally McBeal, US Marshals, and Wonder Boys.
Now he’s healthy, clean and sober and knocking the films out one after one, hoping to ride the success wave as long as possible. In addition to Iron Man, Sherlock Holmes and Tropic Thunder, He’s got Rain of Madness, The Soloist, Iron Man 2, Master Mind and The Avengers all in the queue.
