This action flick about the life and times of Public Enemy John Dillinge is set to be a Summer2009 blockbuster and how could it not with a cast including Johnny Depp as Dillinger, Christian Bale, Giovanni Ribisi and Emile de Ravin? The bio-epic is the story of a charasimatic bank robber in the 30s that quickly became the prime target of J. Edgar Hoover’s new FBI. The bureau’s top cop, known as the Clark Gable of the FBI  Melvin Purvis (Bale) tried unsuccessfully to bring Dillinger in until he recruited a gang of western gunslingers and was able to reel the outlaw in.

Johnny Depp, the grandson of a moonshiner himself, said he’s always  had an interest in Dillinger and jumped at the chance to play him on the big screen. Depp even got to don the actual pants Dillinger was wearing when he was finally snagged.

TERMINATOR SALVATION
In theaters May 22
Christian Bale, Bryce Dallas Howard, Moon Bloodgood, Helena Bonham Carter, Sam Worthington.

In the latest installment of the Terminator saga, Christian Bale takes up the role of John Carter in post-apocalyptic 2018. Connor is tasked with leading the resistance against Skynet and the Terminators.
Though Arnold Schwarzenegger and Linda Hamilton are nowhere to be found in this Spring action show, Bale has a good track record of carrying the show. Bale is a fan of the Terminator flicks and has signed on for two more installments.

THE UGLY TRUTH

Katherine Heigl, Gerard Butler

In the romantic comedy file, we have The Ugly Truth starring two of Hollywood’s hottest hotties: Gerard Butler and Katherine Heigl. In what’s being billed as a classic battle-of-the-sexes comedy, Heigl plays a morning talk show producer with a host of relationship problems. Her chauvinistic reporter, played by Butler, puts her through the wringer with a series of tests to prove his relationship prowess and help her find love…. Of course, there’s a twist. My guess is he falls in love with her, but we’ll have to wait until April to find out.

WATCHMEN
In theaters March 6
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, Malin Akerman, Billy Crudup, Matthew Goode.

Based on the DC Comic graphic novel, Watchmen takes place in 1985, but in a world where super heros are every day people, just trying to make their way like the rest of us. Rorschach, a washed-up vigilante, sets out to uncover a plot to kill all super heros after his pal is murdered. Rorschach enlists the help of other misfit, retired masked crime-fighters to help him.

TAKING OF PELHAM 1-2-3
In theaters June 12
Denzel Washington, John Travolta, Luis Guzman, John Tuturro

A third version of Taking of Pelham 1-2-3, has Denzel Washington and John Travolta reprising the roles of Walter Mathau and Robert Shaw (1973 version.) The film pitts Washington, a New York City subway dispatcher, against Travolta and his gang of subway hijackers. Travolta and his gang are threatening to execute subway passengers if a huge ransom isn’t paid, but Washington uses is expertise on the NYC subway system to attempt to outwit him.

All I know is that who really cares if the movie is any good as long as we get a couple of hours of John Travolta and Denzel Washington!
