In 2008 Avon committed $1 million to the United Nations Trust Fund to End Violence Against Women, the largest corporate contribution made to the fund in a single year. Reese Witherspoon, as Avon Global Ambassador, is lending her star power to bring awareness to this enormous, world-wide situation. The Fund has distributed over $18 million to 250 innovative programs to aide women in more than 100 countries in the past 10 years. Witherspoon stated that two-thirds of people living in poverty throughout the world are women and that women, everywhere earn less money than men do in similar jobs.
Avon has created an Empowerment Bracelet and proceeds from the bracelet will be donated to the UN Trust Fund. The bracelet can be purchased, for $3.00, from Avon’s web site by doing a search for “empowerment bracelet”. A small price to pay to help end violence against the women of the world.
