Courtesy of the World Wide Web, you too can bring a madman right into your living room. Have the family gather around the computer in the evening and you can listen to, and watch, this delusional, madman sing, dance and expound on his addled views.
There are sites where you can view photos of the Tate and LaBianca murder scenes. Sites that give the prison addresses of the members of Manson’s family convicted of the slaughter of seven innocent people. There is a dot com site that keeps anyone interested updated on the latest happenings of Manson and the people once under his influence. Inconceivably, Manson has his own MySpace page and Twitter account. How is it possible that prison inmates are allowed that kind of access to the internet?
Most chilling is that even after 40 years, Manson, now 74, has a fan club of sorts. He receives letters from the cracked and crazed of the world. According to Vincent Bugliosi, the prosecutor who put Manson and associates behind bars, and author of the book Helter Skelter “More and more young people have become Charlie’s pen pals”. In the same way he was able to influence the minds of the lost young people who joined his “family” he has been able to create a new group of followers which he can preside over even from prison.
In his closing statement at Manson’s trial, Vincent Bugliosi said, “Charles Manson, the Mephistophelean guru who raped and bastardized the minds of all those who gave themselves so totally to him, sent out from the fires of hell at Spahn Ranch three heartless, bloodthirsty robots”. And, the prison where he will spend the rest of his life is allowing him the opportunity to continue.
