Lewis Carroll’s wonderful, whimsical, wacky tale, Alice in Wonderland, was published in 1865. Now, almost 145 years later, the wonderful, whimsical, wacky mind of Tim Burton, will bring it to life in his film Alice in Wonderland.
The ” Mad Hatter” will be portrayed by Johnny Depp, who is himself somewhat of a mad hatter. The film will also feature Helena Bonham Carter as the” Red Queen”, and British actor, Michael Sheen as the “White Rabbit”. Nineteen- year-old Australian actress, Mia Wasikowska, will be “Alice”.
The first film version of Alice was a silent film made in 1903 and directed by Cecil M. Hepworth. “Alice” was played by May Clark. The last time it was brought to the big screen was a 1951 as a somewhat watered-down, animated Disney version. Burton’s creative mastery is sure to bring us the story as though it was straight from the mind of Lewis Carroll himself.
Alice in Wonderland is filmed in 3-D and will be released in March of 2010.
