Yesterday, it was reported that NBC and other television networks were in a bidding contest for the rights to televise the “Michael Jackson” tribute concert. Now it is being reported that not only NBC but all the networks that were involved in the bidding have dropped out. One reason they all lost interest was because there wouldn’t be new footage of Jackson performing and no exclusive footage. They didn’t feel that AEG’s asking price of $20 million was worth it. One network source was quoted as saying, “And the cost of that thing is $20 million? With no Michael Jackson” Ha!”
It’s a little confusing because you might think the television special would contain at least part of the famous rehearsal footage but that doesn’t seem to be the case. There is a fear, probably on the part of AEG, that the television special will be too much like the planned documentary containing Jackson’s LAST REHEARSAL FOOTAGE. Wait, did I hear a drum roll? I don’t understand why there would be a worry that a TV special that doesn’t contain the LAST REHEARSAL FOOTAGE (yes there was definitly a drum roll) would be too much like the documentary that does contain…you know.
Anyway, all you Jackson fanatics, don’t fear. There will be the documentary AND a movie version which is supposed to premiere in October. After that? Well, since a final resting place for the singer has not been decided upon maybe there could be a world tour showcasing the the gold plated casket which, by the way, is almost identical James Brown’s casket. Jackson said James Brown was his greatest inspiration. Evidently, in more ways than one.
