People everywhere, from every walk of life, mourn the passing of Walter Cronkite. From the doorman at the building where Walter Cronkite lived, who said “He was friendly, open. He liked to give his opinion and ideas…a very lovable gentlemen”, to President Obama who spoke what so many feel by saying, “But Walter was always more than just an anchor. He was family. He invited us to believe in him, and he never let us down”.
Hollywood celebrities, politicians, sports figures, NASA, fellow collegues are all giving their thoughts on this most venerated man.
Katie Couric said “he set the standard for us all”. From Brian Williams …”our industry has lost its living giant”. Barbara Walters expressed her feelings by saying, “There never was and there never will be another Walter Cronkite. We trusted him and that trust was well founded. He was also a jolly and supportive friend. He will be missed by each of us individually who knew him and by the whole country who loved him”.
But it was what George Clooney said that comes closest to the way I feel. Clooney stated, “He was the most important voice in our lives for thirty years. And that voice made people reach for the stars. I hate the world without Walter Cronkite”.
